EM Marrow writes aphorisms, fiction, and essays and teaches film and media studies in Southern California. Cinema, contemporary art, philosophy, classrooms, traffic, old photographs, guitars, repairs, and family life converge in the same notebook. The work returns to the moment when a convincing explanation encounters changed evidence.

Playing guitar, making photographs, and talking after a film often carry a question further than sitting down to answer it. Marrow is drawn to the gap between being persuaded by an idea and finding a way to live with it. Disagreement is usually welcome, though patience with the ordinary interruptions of a working day is less reliable. Drafts are put aside for a few days and read again, sometimes with a growing list of things to change.
